MSM Irresponsibility

The main stream media has crossed a line in the past few days. It is one thing to be biased and to attack conservative ideas and promote liberal ideas on a regular basis. That is an abuse of power when you claim to be unbiased, but it is not completely irresponsible. However, there is an extremely disturbing and incredibly irresponsible new trend over the past few days in several mainstream newspapers to legitimize the conspiracy theories about the 9/11 attacks being plotted by the Bush administration. There is no place for that in responsible journalism.

Lest you think I am exaggerating here are two examples that I have found without even looking for them this week. The first is from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. I will only quote the last paragraph, but it sums up the editorial well:

In spite of Connelly's faith in what commission members say, the report seems to be an obvious cover-up. The question that we all need to ask is: What is the commission covering up? Was 9/11, in fact, an inside job?

The San Francisco Chronicle has been publishing a series of letters to the editor justifying the conspiracy theories. Here is the one from this morning:

Editor -- What's more ludicrous than the belief that a missile, not Flight 77, hit the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001? How about the belief that a hijacker, with little flight training, was able to pull off some amazing aerial maneuvers that few pilots are capable of doing?

According to the official version of Sept. 11, as Flight 77 approached the Pentagon at 400 mph, hijacker Hani Hanjour did a virtuoso 270-degree turn, then flew so low that some car antennas were clipped. All this so that Flight 77 could just happen to slam into the part of the Pentagon with the fewest people.

JOE SOKOLINSKY

Bash George Bush all you want, but do not engage in tin foil hat conspiracies to do it! I have lost what little respect I had in these two newspapers.
