Fowl Reading
I finished the next two books in the Artemis Fowl collection, the Arctic Incident and the Eternity Code. They were both good, fast paced fun and had many likeable characters. I think the description by the author that these books are like Diehard, but with fairies is accurate.
I have also been reading up on arthropods and recently finished Spiders of the World by Rod and Ken Preston-Mafham and am now reading their book Grasshoppers and Mantids of the World. I also recently finished Scorpions and Venomous Insects of the Southwest by Erik D. Stoops, Alien Empire: an exploration of the lives of insects by Christopher O'Toole, and am working on Journey to the Ants by Bert Holldobler. All of these were fairly good except for Alien Empire, which had very good photography, but not enough depth.
I finished the tape series on interstellar astronomy by James Kaler and thought the speaker did as good job as I have heard explaining Einsteins physics to a layman like myself, especially the parts dealing with measuring interstellar distance and describing gravity. I have now started the Modern Scholar series on Roman Classical Mythology by Peter Meineck and am again impressed that Meineck can still bring new information and insight on a subject I have read good bit about. I like this one as much as I liked his previous series.
