Sahara

I finished listening to Sahara by Clive Cussler on Sunday. I did not know that they had made a movie out of it when I started listening. From the previews it looks like they changed some major plot points, but previews are often not very honest. This was better than Trojan Odyssey, but followed some of the same patterns. An accepted historical truth (the assassination of Lincoln/the location of the Troy) is overturned as part of an adventure by two guys that saves the world from complete environmental destruction (loss of all oxygen/another ice age). Sahara also had the same problem as Trojan Odyssey with its heros being boring and without any real flaws and with its writing being a bit cheesy at times as the characters struggle to out hero each other.

The was one part of the book that was completely unintentionally hilarious. The Secretary General of the UN in Sahara is an extremely honest, selfless, and heroic individual who takes great diplomatic risks and at one point unilaterally invades a dictatorship to interfere with its internal actions. You can stop laughing now.
