Last week I finished both The Rape of Nanking and Band of Brothers. A lot of the stuff in these books I had heard or read before, but not in such detail. The most disturbing part of the Rape of Nanking in some ways is how little Japan has learned from it. Japanese history textbooks often gloss over what happened in World War II and many nationalists groups have threatened people who are apologetic. The mayor of Nagasaki was shot a few years ago for that Hirohito was responsible for World War II. Many Chinese are still mad about Japan not apologizing for WWII properly.
