I Say We Call It New Texas
Austin Bay thinks that Canada may be on the verge of becoming a failed state because of the massive corruption of the government. This may result in Canada becoming several new states. Bay thinks Alberta might even want to join the United States. This is all dependent on Quebec first deciding to leave. Bay writes,
What happens to Canada if Quebec secedes? Canadians are once again pondering this question -- live on the CBC -- and given Canada's status as America's number one trading partner and continental neighbor, U.S. citizens should consider the ramifications.Canadians in the western and maritime provinces already dread the political power of populous Ontario. (Quebec serves as a political balance to Ontario.) If Quebec bids adieu, "remnant" Canada's political rules will be subject to revision. Subsequent regional bickering could lead to further fragmentation.
Captains Quarters thinks that Quebec may be ready to leave now,
After seeing $250 million of Canadian tax money disappear into the pockets of Liberal Party activists and the party coffers, however, the momentum away from separatism has been reversed. Now 54% of Quebec favors separation from Canada in some form
I for one would welcome Alberta in as a new state. Pretty much every part of Canada east of Ontario would be a good addition to the US. I would not mind Newfoundland, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia joining the US as well if they wanted to. I doubt this will happen any time soon but we can always hope. Maybe we need a catchy slogan like 54 40 or Fight to get western Canadians excited about the idea. Also the Northwestern territories will need a new name and I think New Texas fits the bill fine. We would need to rename British Columbia too (maybe New Columbia would work). Plus this would connect Alaska to the rest of the US, which would be convenient for everyone.
