Sgrena and Pictures of the Day
I have not written yet about Giuliana Sgrena and her accusations against US troops, but it appears that the communist anti-American terrorist supporter may be lying about what happened. Giuliana Sgrena claims that Americans fired 300-400 bullets at her car and that her car was also attacked by a tank. Here are some pictures of the car she was riding in. Here is a picture of Bonnie and Clyde’s car after it was shot at with hundreds of bullets (make that "167 bullers" see update below). Note the difference. As Glenn says, “If U.S. troops were firing as much as Sgrena claims, they should all be sent back to the shooting range to requalify.”
Sgrena says that their car was not speeding (the US military claims it was going over 100 miles per hour) but she also writes, “The car kept on the road, going under an underpass full of puddles and almost losing control to avoid them. We all incredibly laughed. It was liberating. Losing control of the car in a street full of water in Baghdad and maybe wind up in a bad car accident after all I had been through would really be a tale I would not be able to tell.”
And here are some translated excerpts from a Dutch columnist who was on a plane with Sgrena before the incident, “'You don't understand the situation. We are anti-imperialists, anti-capitalists, communists,' they said. The Iraqis only kidnap American sympathizers, the enemies of the Americans have nothing to fear.

But they knew better. When we arrived at Baghdad Airport, I was waiting for a jeep from the American army to come pick me up. I saw one of the Italian women walking around crying. An Iraqi had stolen her computer and television equipment. They were standing outside shivering, waiting for a cab to take them to Baghdad.
With her bias Sgrena did not only jeopardize herself, but due to her behavior a security officer is now dead, and the Italian government (prime minister Berlusconi included) has had to spend millions of euros to save her life. It is to be hoped that Sgrena will decide to have a career change. Propagandist or MP perhaps. But she should give up journalism immediately.”
Although the terrorists have claimed they did not receive a ransom, naive and hateful is still a dangerous way to live.
Update: 3/10/2005 After doing a little more research it turns out that Bonnie and Clyde were on the receiving end of "only" 167 shots delivered by Texas and Louisiana's finest, not "hundreds".
