Just Try and Stop Me
Lots of people are linking to this speculation that the FEC is going to try to interfere with blogging. I doubt the FEC is dumb enough to do it (but it could surprise me). I doubt the courts will rule in favor of the FEC on this issue as well (but there are plenty of judges with no respect for the constitution so I could be wrong here too). Most importantly I doubt many people will stop blogging even if the FEC tries to stop blogs. There is probably no better way for a blog to be popular than for the FEC to try to shut it down and the fact that many prominent bloggers are lawyers will help pursuade the FEC that it does not want to get into this fight.
McCain-Feingold is a terrible law and the whole campaign finance reform movement is a joke. It has trampled on the first ammendment and has made the political process even more messed up than it was before all the "reform" laws were passed. Require full disclosure of who is paying for what stuff (commercials, campaigns, etc.) and let the chips fall where they may.
